What is central heating installation?

Rather than simply just installing a boiler, central heating installation refers to the installation of all associated components necessary for a central heating system. You might require central heating installation if you are building a new property, undertaking a property redevelopment, or changing the type of heating system in your home from electric storage heating or another older system.

WHAT DOES A NEW CENTRAL HEATING INSTALLATION INCLUDE?

The components that are required will depend on the type of boiler you are having installed. There are three main types of boilers available for your home, the one most suitable largely depends on your current hot water demands and a few other factors.

Speak with one of our professional engineers today for some free no-obligation advice on which one to choose as not all boiler types are suitable for every household.

TYPES OF BOILER SYSTEMS:

Combi boilers: Also known as combination boilers, are high efficiency water heaters and a central heating boiler in a single, compact unit. Heating water directly from “the mains” every time you turn on a tap, you won’t need a hot water storage cylinder or a cold water tank in your roof space.

These boilers are super cost-effective and also energy-efficient, that’s because water is heated instantly as opposed to being pre-heated and stored in a cylinder.

System boilers: These kinds of boilers require a cylinder for hot water storage, but major hot water components are built into the actual boiler. This also makes for a quick and easy installation.

Solar compatible and easy to maintain and service, they’re an ideal boiler for homes with more than one bathroom.

Conventional boilers: are perfect for home that have an existing traditional heating and hot water system, linked to a separate hot water cylinder.  Boilers like this need a cold water storage tank in the ceiling or loft that feeds to the hot water cylinder.  Also, you’ll need a tank that maintains the water level of your central heating system.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO INSTALL A CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM?

This will depend on a few of your circumstances. The amount of radiators that will be installed, whether or not you’re installing a brand new system or upgrading an existing one, what type of system you’re installing, the size of your property and whether or not you are currently living in the property.

If you are living in the property, the heating engineers will need to work around you so the installation may take longer. With that being said, a complete installation should take around 3 days to install a boiler and 6 – 8 radiators.

Things to consider

The price of boilers varies widely depending on the make and model. This will have the greatest impact on your overall budget

The layout of your home and necessary pipework will have an impact on the cost of your central heating installation(ie either copper or plastic and pipe sizes selected)

Typical installation locations include kitchens, utility rooms (if trying to fit the new boiler into a cabinet, dimensions are vital), airing cupboards and garages

Is your property connected to the gas mains network? If no, you will have to consider an alternative option such as an oil boiler or an LPG boiler

Will a combi,( storage combi boiler) a system boiler or a conventional boiler be best suited to your heating and hot water needs

To install pipework, we will need to take up the flooring in your property. Depending on the flooring type, this can have an impact on the time it takes to complete the installation. For instance, laying pipework underneath solid flooring which has already been laid is virtually impossible and is not advised. It should be noted that taking up laminate flooring can be damaging to the panels and these may not go back down in the same way.
